“Destino” (1945, released in 2003)

Standard

Fantabulous mash-up of art by Salvador Dali, animation by Walt Disney & background song by Janelle Monae’s latest hit.

[… Despite the project’s merits, the two men couldn’t develop a coherent concept: the most they could conceive was a vague notion of Cronos falling in love with a mortal woman, and baseball as a metaphor for human existence. Disney and Dali weren’t even close to a consensus: the studio head called it, “just a simple love story – boy meets girl” while the surrealist claimed it was “a magical exposition on the problem of life in the labyrinth of time.”] (From “The Story of Destino” at http://www.suite101.com/content/the-story-of-destino-a314841)

“Let your spirit free through the window of your mind. Unchain your soul from hate. All you need is faith. I control my life. I am the one. You control your life, but don’t forget your destiny.” (Lyrics of “Destiny” by Stratovarius at http://www.letras4u.com/stratovarius/destiny.htm)

Watch below this Janelle Monáe montage from the movie ‘Destino’ by Salvador Dali and Disney. Songs include ‘Sir GreenDown’ from the best album of last year and of the new decade, ‘The ArchAndroid’ (Suites II and III). The song ‘Sir GreenDown’ was inspired from the Destino movie. It fits in with the video & when it is over, “Cold War” plays. It ends “Tightrope” on the credits.

In the album, next to the name of each song Janelle Monáe tells you what her inspiration was. She has done it to all the songs on the album. ‘Cold War’ was inspired by the atomic bombs, Muhammad Ali’s fists and Martin McKnights “I Have A Scream” speech. Her music ties in with the video so well, almost as if the film was made for these songs.

SIR GREENDOWN

Sir Greendown

Come wake me in the night

The dragon wants a bite

Of our love

The flower and the golden hand

Wooden wings and clouds of sand

Sir Greendown

Let’s leave in an hour

Meet me at the tower

Ride your horse

Here the dolphins walk like men

Here the cyborgs have a plan

Sir Greendown

I need your shining light

Let’s leave in an hour

Meet me at the tower

I’m in love.

COLD WAR

So you think I’m alone?

But being alone’s the only way to be

When you step outside

You spend life fighting for your sanity

This is a cold war

You better know what you’re fighting for

This is a cold war

Do you know what you’re fighting for?

If you wanna be free?

Below the ground’s the only place to be

Cause in this life

You spend time running from depravity

This is a cold war

Do you know what you’re fighting for?

This is a cold war

You better know what you’re fighting for

This is a cold war

You better know what you’re fighting for

This is a cold war

Do you know what you’re fighting for?

Bring wings to the weak and bring grace to the strong

May all evil stumble as it flies in the world

All the tribes comes and the mighty will crumble

We must brave this night and have faith in love

I’m trying to find my peace

I was made to believe there’s something wrong with me

And it hurts my heart

Lord have mercy, ain’t it plain to see?

This is a cold war

You better know what you’re fighting for

This is a cold war

Do you know what you’re fighting for?

KELLINDOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Do you know it’s a cold, cold war?

Do you, do you do you?

Bye, bye, bye, bye

Don’t you cry when I say goodbye
